I picked up this amazing secondhand desk at a local gift shop. I’ve been looking for an old shabby chic like desk for my office. This is exactly what I was looking for: drawers I could beat up with a nice dark wood top. It was already distressed, but it was this awful mint green color. My office decor is lavender shabby chic, so this green simply does not go! So I decided to buy it anyway and just refinish it myself.1

First remove all the hardware and tape off the top since I didn’t want to get any paint on the surface of the desk.

2I purchased a warm off white color (flat) to cover the green. I used two coats to cover most of the green.

As you can see, after the first coat you could still see too much green, so i applied a second coat after it dried.

Then I took a few pieces of sandpaper my husband had on hand. The grit doesn’t really matter. Whatever works for you. And I started to sand off the edges and spots on the desk to get that distressed look. I’m totally ok with a little green here and there. It adds to┬áthat old distressed feel I wanted.

Lastly, replace the hardware. The flower knobs on the top were painted a green color that wasn’t working for me. So my amazing mom broke out her paints and touched them up with a blend of lavender and gray to match the color of my room. I am 100% confident I get my creative side from her!

Overall, I’m really happy with how it turned out. My office is well on its way to becoming what I want it to be!
