I used to spend a lot of money on carpet refresher, anything to make the house smell nice. Little did I know those products are full of unwanted chemicals! I found a solution that’s natural and costs me only about 50 cents to make! And the house smells fresh and clean.
All you need are two simple ingredients: baking soda and Purification. I get that humongous bag of baking soda at Costco since I use it for a lot of things around the house like cleaning, detox baths and toothpaste.
Purification is a blend of Citronella, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Melaleuca, Lavandin, and Myrtle. It’s part of the Everyday Oils Collection that comes with the Premium Starter Kit. I use it to freshen everything! You can put a drop on a cotton ball and put it in the bottom of a trashcan or in a vent in the car to eliminate odors. For those times I forget I had a load in the laundry, I put a few drops in the rinse cycle to get that yucky smell out! Bugs don’t like it either so it makes a great natural insect repellant.
This jar holds about 3/4 cup of baking soda. Add 7-8 drops of Purification to the baking soda.
The essential oil drops make little clumps in the baking soda. You can break them up with a knife or spoon. Then put the lid on and give the jar a good shake. Let the combo sit for a day or two so that the baking soda fully absorbs the essential oil. Then just sprinkle onto the carpet and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before vacuuming. The house smells so clean!
